NIS ‘solid’

THERE ARE BILLIONS OF DOLLARSĀ in the National Insurance Fund and Barbadians need not worry it is in the red or that Government is borrowing any money from it.

The assurance came from Minister of Social Security, Senator Dr Esther Byer, as she sought to dispel fears that recent problems with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and the delayed disbursement of funds and other benefits were due to a shortage of money.

ā€œFrom time to time you hear that National Insurance donā€™t have any money, so I want to dispel that myth,ā€she said while addressing the Democratic Labour Partyā€™s 60th annual conference at its George Street, Belleville, St Michael headquarters yesterday.
