The New Orleans community benefits from youth involvement in sports.
In the midst of national discussions concerning the alarming increase in crime and deviant behaviour, manager of the Empire junior football team, Julie Grant, said this community was uplifted by representation and success of the club.
In an interview with SUNSPORT, she was accompanied by the energetic team which placed second in the Under-14 division of the Caribbean Children’s Charity Shield Soccer Classic tournament last month.
Empire were among six teams sent to Port of Spain, Trinidad, to participate in the August 13-18 tournament. They were sponsored by the Hamilton Lashley Human Development Foundation, which also hosted the tournament in Barbados last year, in which the Empire team also placed second.
