THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH is currently investigating a report concerning an incident where nearly $1 000 in food was “bleached” by a health inspector during a cultural display at the University of West Indies, Cave Hill on Tuesday.

The incident allegedly took place when the Antigua and Barbuda Student Association was preparing for a food day as part of a week activities.

The students were told by the health inspector that their food did not meet the regulatory temperature. Despite a request for time to allow the food to heat up via the food warmers, the inspector declined the request.

In addition to this, the inspector reportedly condemned the food, told the students it was now “the property of the Ministry of Health” and after an ensuing argument, doused all the food with bleach.

When contacted Chief Environmental Health Officer Desmond King, said the ministry had received a report on the matter and was conducting an investigation. (AD)
