THE SAGA surrounding clearance of the new AstroTurf from the Port Authority without having to pay any exorbitant duty is over, paving the way for its installation shortly.
Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley told NATIONSPORT on Tuesday that the National Sports Council (NSC) was successful in getting the duty waivers cleared for the imported artificial turf.
The new turf has been on the island since August, but it was not released from the Bridgetown Port while the NSC awaited the waivers from the Ministry of Finance, which was estimated to cost around $45 000.
“The Ministry of Finance has granted all the duty waivers necessary to allow for the clearing of the AstroTurf so I am anxiously looking forward to the installation,” Lashley said.
