THE HEALER CAFÉ received an unexpected guest around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
Directed by officials from Town and Country Planning, a crew from the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) cleared and demolished the illegal structure, located at Rock Dundo, St James. The owner, whose alias was given as “Jah See”, had already left when the Nation team arrived around midday.
The wooden two-storey home and business came tumbling down around 1:25 p.m., after personal items were removed. Electrical wiring was also disconnected.
Deputy Chief Town Planner George Browne told the SATURDAY SUN the demolition was “long overdue” since the owner had “a couple years” to remove the structure.
“. . . Notice was served a long time ago. More critically, this is in a zone one area, and no new developments can be erected.”
There was another illegal building a few feet away, also believed to be owned by “Jah See”. However, Town and Country Planning officials stated it would not be torn down, since notice had not been served. Police from District ‘A’ were also on hand to guide traffic and oversee the process. (LW)
