THE PRINCIPAL OF THE UNIVERSITY of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus has warned that a close eye should be kept on some unregulated and sometimes unaccredited foreign institutions offering degrees.
Professor Eudine Barriteau made the comments as she delivered the Elsie Payne Memorial Lecture, during which she reported a turnaround in some areas of operation within the institution, which has been battling declining finances and a drop in student enrolment.
Despite suggestions it would have to downsize to cope with reduced funding and student numbers as a result of Barbadians having to pay their own tuition fees, Barriteau remained confident the institution would triumph.
During her address on Wednesday night at Queen’s College, Barriteau voiced concern in light of national and regional competition in the provision of higher education.
