LOCAL chess supremacy remains in familiar hands.

Yu Tien Poon retained the Barbados Chess Federation’s national title after defeating challenger Orlando Husbands in the final round of games in the 2015 national championships at the Bridgetown Chess Centre in Cavans Lane, The City, on Thursday night.

The 16-year-old Poon overcame a defeat at the hands of Kemp Lynch in the previous round on Tuesday night to prevail over 2013 national champion Husbands and finish the competition with nine and a half out of a maximum 11 points, a mere half point ahead of Lynch and Delisle Warner.
