A BUMPER 2015/16 winter cruise season is on the cards for Barbados.

With 16 new cruise ships scheduled to make their first calls and 16 ships home-porting at the Bridgetown Port over the season, tourism authorities are predicting a five per cent growth in cruise business over last year.

The forecast is supported by the 700 000 passengers expected to arrive on ships between last month and April 2016 when the season officially ends.

Among the new ships adding Barbados to their schedule are the German vessel Mein Schiff 3 and Britain’s biggest cruise ship Britannia, which made its inaugural visit to Barbados last week.

These two ships are expected to create heightened activity in the port next week.
