Kingston – West Indies stumbled to 148 for five at tea, replying to Pakistan’s first innings total of 217, on the second day of the first Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

At the break, Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite continued to lead the fight for his side and was not out on 60, and his predecessor, and Wanderers and Barbados Pride teammate, Jason Holder was not out on 30.

The pair have added 48 – unbroken – for the sixth wicket, after the Caribbean side lost two wickets between lunch and tea to successive deliveries from left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi in reaching 100.

Vice-captain and hometown hero Jermaine Blackwood was caught at mid-on off Afridi for 22, miscuing an ill-advised, lofted on-drive.

Next ball, left-hander Kyle Mayers was trapped lbw to Afridi for a first-ball duck, playing back and across to a full-length delivery that moved back.

Two balls later, fortune smiled on West Indies, when Holder, on nought, was fortunate with a successful review of an lbw decision from umpire Joel Wilson to the second ball he faced. TV replays suggested the ball pitched outside leg-stump.

Afridi has taken two for 26 from 13 overs and Mohammad Abbas has supported with two for 30 from 17 overs.

The Test is the first of two between the teams in the Jamaica capital and it is being played behind closed doors because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It also marks the start of the new round of the ICC World Test Championship for the teams.
