A European women’s player has been thrown in the mix for the start of this year’s Massy United Insurance Clash Of The Titans road tennis tournament which serves tonight at Coverley, Christ Church.
Sarah Peck, a 32-year-old English student who is writing her PhD in Barbados, has joined the competition in an effort to dethrone reigning champion Kim Holder and is promising to bring her best game to the tournament.
“When I first saw road tennis being played I thought, ‘Wow, this is really indigenous’ and I was eager to start playing,” said Peck, who hails from Sheffield in north England.
“I have been here for the last three months and I have been enjoying the sport. I have watched a lot of the tournaments and I have been playing quite [well].
“I grew up playing racquet sports, so it came naturally,” said Peck while attending the player’s reception to open the tournament.
But while Peck is eyeing one of the top prizes, last year’s losing finalist, Rachel Smith, is sending a warning to champion Kim Holder and whoever else wants to get between her and the grand prize this year. (PR)
