‘Baracus’ betters Barker

ONE OF the touted heir apparents to the road tennis throne, Darius “Baracus” Gaskin, had to fight to make it into the next round of the Massy United Insurance Clash Of The Titans when the battles continued on Thursday night at the Villages at Coverley.

Gaskin, who had fought the ruling monarch Mark “Venom” Griffith to a standstill in their last two meetings, was taken to the brink before pipping the flamboyant Aaron Barker 18-21, 21-12, 21-19.

The former national table tennis champion, Barker played an attractive game which matched his usual sartorial elegance as he stunned Gaskin in the first game with some classy plays, particularly a number of disdainful backhand smashes to thrill the crowd.
