THE BLACKMAN SISTERS led Brittons Hill to a close win in the finals of the Sir Roy Trotman Zone of the Barbados Workers’ Union Netball Tournament on Sunday night at the Netball Stadium.

Brittons Hill defeated Newbury 45-40 in a tight and entertaining final after Latonia Blackman overcame a poor first quarter to score a game-high 35 goals from 42 attempts, while sister Nadia scored nine from 15.

Newbury had come into the match buoyed by the success of their team in the Linda Brooks Zone and were keen on winning two titles on the night.

Poor passing by Brittons Hill in the first quarter saw Newbury running away to a 4-1 lead before eventually closing out the first quarter 7-5. Brittons Hill came out blazing in the second quarter, with Latonia leading the charge with five straight unanswered goals before Newbury’s Shakelia Smith replied with one of her own. (PG)
