PROVIDENCE – A treasured record and successful era in Barbados’ cricket came to an end yesterday when Guyana won their first match in 31 years in this country against the Barbados Pride at the National Stadium.
Memories of their heist last season were still fresh in the minds of the Pride, when the Jaguars were set 69 runs and lost by two runs. But on this occasion, the 40 runs they had to score came at the loss of just one wicket when the third round of the WICB Professional Cricket League climaxed.
The triumph saw The Jaguars strengthen their position at the top of the tables and showed up Barbados’ lack of patience when facing the art of slow bowling – even if some of the decisions continued to be contentious.
Barbados Pride, following-on with a deficit of 233 and starting the day on 166 for three, were bowled out for 272 in their second innings – 73 minutes after lunch with measured half-centuries from Roston Chase and Shamarh Brooks. (BAW)
