BARBADIANS HAVE BEEN URGED to safeguard the island’s rich heritage for future generations as it celebtares its 49th anniversary of Independence today.

The call came from Reverend Lennox Boyce, chairman of the General Assembly of the Church of God, as he delivered the sermon at the National Independence Service at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre yesterday evening.

The service was attended by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave, Acting Prime Minister Richard Sealy, other members of Government, members of the diplomatic corps, private sector leaders, schoolchildren, teachers and others, filling the Hibiscus Room.

The service was officiated by president of the Barbados Evangelical Association, Reverend Dr Nigel Taylor. (CA)
