‘Toothless’ auditor general

SOME MEMBERS of the public are frustrated with the inability of the office of the Auditor General to force agencies to comply with its recommendations.

“We are driving but looking solely through the rearview mirror and that’s a very dangerous thing even for one citizen to do, never mind the whole Government,” said accountant Brent Shuffler.

He was one of the people who attended the Wednesday night lecture by Auditor General Leigh Trotman at the Central Bank’s Grand Salle.

“I think that what is needed is that we move from toothless watchdog to genuine accountability and implementation. I think people have been saying this for too long,” he added. (WILLCOMM)
