ATTORNEY GENERAL Adriel Brathwaite wants greater cooperation between government agencies in the fight to stop drugs from entering the island.

Speaking yesterday at the Grantley Adams International Airport training room to announce the opening of the AIRCOP training programme, he noted that it was well within law enforcement’s benefit to share information.

“We do have a challenge in the region, not only for us being used as a transshipment point for drugs, but we can see daily the impact of drugs and guns not only here in Barbados, but in the region at large. Thus the importance of us having a more robust interagency collaboration, not only in Barbados, but regionally.

“One of the weaknesses identified regionally is the lack of inter-agency cooperation from country to country, and it’s one of the areas that as Attorney General I am determined, certainly from a Barbados perspective, to adjust or address any weakness that prevents important agencies in securing our borders, and agencies working together so we can stem the flow of illegal drugs in and out of the country,” he said.
