Kemar Romel Griffith admitted he broke into the home of his grandmother’s friend, a woman who had been good to him.

The judge said that in the victim impact statement, the victim felt “you should have been tied up to a tree and both hands taken off, after you carried away 40 years of jewellery – including gifts she treasured. You imagine stealing her dead mother’s wedding ring? . . . I feel her pain.”

Justice Carlisle Greaves sentenced Griffith, 29, to four years on each of two offences last Friday, in Supreme Court No. 3 where he returned for sentencing for breaking into Elaine Watts’ home between July 9 and July 10, 2012 and stealing $40 000 in jewellery.

The convicted man, who is already serving a five-year sentence for aggravated burglary, had asked the court to take into account when sentencing him, the armed robbery of the Silver Fox Arcade on October 16, 2016, when he and others took $11 166. (SD)
