SHANE BRATHWAITE finished eighth in the men’s 60 metre hurdles tonight as the curtain came down on the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon.

Brathwaite clocked 7.88 seconds in the final, following a personal best 7.64 seconds in the semis.

Jamaican Omar McLeod took the gold in a world leading 7.41 seconds, denying pre-race favourite Pascal Martinot-Lagarde (7.46) yet another world title. Dimitri Bascou, also of France, was third in 7.48 seconds.

Eddie Lovett of the US Virgin Islands finished seventh in 7.75.

Barbados ended the championships with one bronze medal, one of only 28 countries to reach the podium out of more than 110 participating.

That medal came compliments Ramon Gittens in the men’s 60 metre dash in 6.51 seconds. Yesterday, Ashley Marshall did 7.38 seconds in the women’s race but did not advance from the heats.
