Units headache

DISPOSING OF UNITS in Government’s high-rise housing project at The Grotto, identified in official documents as Dalkeith Woods or The Woods-at-Dalkeith, is turning out to be a major headache for the Freundel Stuart Administration.

While Prime Minister Stuart, in whose constituency the project is located, said recently a solution had been found and would be announced shortly, documents seen by the WEEKEND NATION show the struggle officials have been going through to get the units into the hands of potential occupants.

Dalkeith Woods was designed as a high-rise approach to improving housing in urban Barbados, primarily for lower-income earners, comprising five four-storey buildings, each with 16 two-bedroom units.

According to the State documents, the units “are fairly well appointed and will allow for comfortable living”, and late last year the overall project was appraised at $24 million.
