Adding that romantic touch

IT’S?UPON?US AGAIN, that time of year when everyone thinks of love: Valentine’s Day. It’s a time when people go the extra mile to show the ones they love just what they mean to them. Teddy bears, flowers and chocolates are classics and work well in most cases but what about a gift for the person who has everything? Looking for the perfect gift can make the season just as frustrating for some as Christmas can be.
Whether you’ve been together six months or married for 20 years, whether you normally celebrate or just let the day go by, these ideas can put a spin on what could be another run-of-the-mill Valentine’s Day.
Drawing on that recent Christmas spirit, try celebrating 12 days of Valentine’s. It may sound like a lot of work but it can be an easy and budget-friendly project and one that’s sure to mean a lot to the person on the receiving end. Be creative, have fun with it and reflect your personality. Your treats can be both tangible and intangible.
On the first day, for example, one balloon that says “I love you” or a single red rose can start you off. Continue with two handwritten poems on beautifully designed paper; they don’t need to be original, search old postcards or the Internet. Keep going until the twelfth day, a CD with five songs which say how you feel, seven home-baked heart cookies, ten coupons with favours to be redeemed throughout the year, and eleven Hershey’s Kisses.
Remember these are just suggestions and that you can go as far as your imagination can take you. Top it off with a romantic Valentine’s Day meal where you tell your sweetheart “I love you” in 12 languages and it’s sure to be a day the two of you will never forget!Next week, Part II.
