BAY COLT STEVEN ALLAN spectacularly won the 66th Barbados Guineas Grade 1 overe 1 570 metres for West Indian-bred three-year-old-horses (allotted weights) at the Garrison Savannah yesterday.

In a breathtaking stretch duel between Steven Allan and Stolen, jockey Jalon Samuel, who lost his whip during the race, held his nerve to win by a nose.

It was the second big win for owners Steve and Allan Madoo and trainer Robert Peirce, who earlier this year won the Gold Cup with Dorsett.

In a roughly contested race, while sporting first time blinkers and a tongue tie, Steven Allan raced mid pack. Poetry In Motion led the race from the start, with Kangaroo Jack, Banja, Northern Star, Stolen and Steven Allan in that order. (LY)
