WHEN SMALL FARMER Carson Davis went to bed on Thursday night, he had two cows and 15 sheep. But by yesterday morning he had only sheep.
Davis, a farmer of over 40 years experience, said he lost his five-year old Mandalong which was with calf and expected to drop in six weeks’ time, and a 16-month-old Black Pole.
While estimating his losses at about $6 000 since one cow was with calf, Davis called for the authorities to do something to assist farmers against theft.
He said he was positive that some meat-shop operators were hiring people to butcher people’s animals for them. While noting that he had first-hand information about the activity, Davis refused to publicly point out anyone. (LK)
