THE INITIAL RESISITANCE is gone and the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine is now being accepted across the island.
So said Senior Health Sister in the Ministry of Health, Juleyette Serrano, who was speaking to the DAILY NATION as her ministry hosted outreach programmes to celebrate Vaccination Week In The Americas.
Speaking from the Haynesville Day Nursery in St James where residents were availing themselves of free blood pressure, blood sugar, HIV/AIDS and prostate specific antigen (PSA) tests on Saturday, she said the HPV vaccine was now in its fourth year in Barbados.
It was being offered to first form students and other young adults but could also be taken by adults up to 45 years old once, Serrano said, if they were not sexually active.
