BRIDGETOWN HAS BEEN GIVEN a boost to its UNESCO designation, with the opening of the Central Bank’s Exchange Museum.
Governor of the Central Bank Dr DeLisle Worrell said the island’s latest museum, located on Spry Street in the historic former Masonic Lodge building, was the bank’s contribution to the cultural and artistic community.
Speaking at the official opening recently, Worrell said that in establishing the Exchange Museum, the bank was honoured to be able to recognise the educational institutions, voluntary organisations such as Freemasons and the pioneers of trade and commerce in Bridgetown that had made Barbados strong.
As a new heritage resource, the multistorey Exchange Museum features permanent displays chronicling the history of trade, commerce and banking in Bridgetown, as well as the history of Freemasonry and early education in Barbados, on two upper floors. (GC)
