Physical education teacher Seibert Straughn believes more Bajan schools should compete at the Penn Relays after watching his Foundation athletes get exposed to both high-level competition and scholarship opportunities to American colleges.
Straughn expressed the sentiment just days after the newly-crowned inter-school sports champs returned from Philadelphia with a couple of credible performances, including a silver medal.
“There was such a massive Caribbean presence there as Jamaica had 36 high schools competing while Bahamas had eight and Trinidad took seven, so I would only encourage Barbadian schools to send their athletes because the meet is at a very high competitive level,” explained Straughn. (JM)
