Strong ties

The relationship between Barbados and Guyana is “alive and well”.

This assurance was given to Barbadians and Guyanese by Steve Blackett in his capacity as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs during a reception marking Guyana’s 50th anniversary of independence Thursday night.

Addressing an audience of diplomats, Guyanese and Barbadians at the Guyana Consulate on Brittons Cross Road, Blackett said Barbados had a lot to thank the people of Guyana for and he added the ties forged between the two countries would continue to be strong.

But he said: “We recognise that the Barbados-Guyana relationship requires work if we are to maintain it. We are prepared to do the necessary work to maintain what we consider to be a special relationship which exists between our two countries.”
