FLYOVERS ARE STILL being touted as the solution to traffic congestion, nine years after a project to bring them to Barbados was abandoned.

Bridge consultant Ian Fields, who worked with 3S Solutions, the company contracted in 2006 to build eight flyovers across the ABC Highway, told the SUNDAY SUN that there was still too much gridlock on local roads.

“Every time I go there I see the congestion at every single roundabout and the work that we proposed was to eliminate all of that buildup of traffic,” he  said via telephone from his structural engineering consulting firm, Fynite Solutions , in the United States.

“If you understand, the principle of the flyover was to free traffic on the ABC Highway which would allow them to run uninterrupted. They wouldn’t get impacted by the turning movements of the roundabouts.” (MB)
