WEST INDIES coach Phil Simmons is singing the praises of his team despite defeat by Australia in the latest match of the Ballr Cup Tri-Nation cricket series.

Speaking after the hosts lost by six wickets in a high-scoring match at Kensington Oval on Tuesday night, Simmons said he had been heartened by the performances throughout the series, which also involves South Africa.

It was West Indies’ third defeat in the series after taking wins off both opponents but it left them with no option but to beat South Africa at the same venue tomorrow if they want to qualify for the final.

“It’s been great for me because the work that the guys have put in over the last five or six weeks has been excellent. For us to be in a competition with No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the world and still be in the competition looking to be in the final in the last game . . . . It’s what we spoke about at the start of the tournament,” Simmons told reporters. (HG)
