THE BRILLIANT BLOOMS of local flowers transformed the historic St David’s Anglican Church into a garden celebrating Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence last weekend.
Entitled A Taste Of Summer – Twice As Nice, the show, part of a programme that included the vibes of local artistes, a wine and cheese cellar and a tea party, was held at the 182 year-old Christ Church place of worship.
Canon Noel Burke, whose wife Hazel came up with the idea, noted this was the second year for the event.
“We were highlighting the 50th anniversary of the Independence of Barbados, so many of the floral displays and arrangements depicted aspects of Barbadian life,” he said. “Many of the arrangements depicted Pride and Industry and along with floral displays, there was also the music.”
The day’s events ended with a sunset concert.
That music, he added, provided the backdrop to the anthuriums, philodendrons and ferns which were strategically placed at the high and low altars, the pulpit, the lectern, in the south and north windows and in the porch.
Burke added the response was excellent, but the church was not sure the event would be held next year. (HLE)
