Classic bodies steal show

BIKINI fitness and men’s physique produced the most fireworks, but the loudest screams were reserved for the newly introduced men’s classic physique at the 2016 National Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships over the weekend.

Shakira Doughlin repeated as bikini fitness queen and Hadley Hoyte, who became Mr Barbados men’s physique champion for the first time, were the two most impressive winners at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Saturday night.

Bikini fitness and men’s physique had the biggest fields and the most intense competition, but for pure fan appeal, nothing on the six-hour programme rivalled the men’s classic physique, a combination of hard-core bodybuilding and men’s physique where there must be proportionality between height and weight.

Several female fans screamed themselves hoarse at the sight of the streamlined physiques of Hugo Greaves, Andre Bascombe and Nicholas Best. Greaves, the best conditioned of the three, was given a Hollywood reception by his adoring fans at ABC Fitness studios, the biggest and most vocal contingent in the audience. (MK)
