SEVERAL PROMINENT TOURISM officials from across the region will gather in Barbados next month to attend the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Business Meetings and State of the Industry Conference (SOTIC).

The event, which will be held under the theme Honouring our Legacy: Defining our Future, is expected to attract Caribbean tourism practitioners, policymakers and strategic partners at the highest levels to discuss issues, identify solutions and develop strategies that would benefit the tourism industry in the Caribbean.  These will include Ministers of Government, Directors of Tourism, Permanent Secretaries, tourism practitioners, aviation experts, students and academicians.

General sessions and workshops are scheduled to be held at the Hilton Barbados Resort from Tuesday, September 13, to Friday, September 16.  Attendees will discuss a number of topics including Delivering the Luxury Experience; Capturing the Multi-Cultural and Emerging Markets; In the Air and on the Ground; Will You Be in Business in Five Years; and Creating Value through Outstanding Visitor Experiences

There will also be a Caribbean Tourism Youth Congress, where persons between the ages of 14 and 17 are expected to research various facets of the tourism sector and share their vision for the development of regional tourism. This will be chaired by Regional Tourism Youth Congress champion and former Junior Minister of Tourism, Chloe Walker.

SOTIC is organised by the CTO as part of its strategy to develop a sustainable tourism industry.  Persons who wish to attend the conference can visit http://sotic.onecaribbean.org/ for more information and to register. (BGIS)
