BARBADOS’ capturing of the top spot at the AFNA Youth World Cup qualifiers and advancing to the finals in Botswana is just one of the goals president of the Barbados Netball Association, Nisha Craigwell, has for the sport.
A proud Craigwell, who was speaking on the court side after Barbados defeated nemesis Trinidad and Tobago 50-48 to end the qualifier unbeaten, said the association and the Bajan Gems faced and overcame many obstacles to get to St Maarten.
“Considering the numerous personnel and financial hurdles which these girls and the BNA had to overcome just to get on the flight to this qualifier, this triumph tonight is made even sweeter. There were times that we even found challenges in getting a venue to train,” Craigwell told NATIONSPORT.
“However, with the dedication of our coaches and other officials supported by the commitment of the players, we have now embarked on our goal of pushing our junior netball with a view to making netball more visible in Barbados which would benefit our clubs and our various national teams.” (KB)
