ST JOSEPH RESIDENTS made good on their promise and turned out this morning to protest the lack of water.

Dozens gathered outside the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Headquarters in the Pine, St Michael, with placards telling the woes of the shortage of the precious resource for use in daily activities.

Organiser Andrew Dixon and the other protesters arrived at 10 a.m. sharp and were joined by parliamentary representative Dale Marshall and fellow Barbados Labour Party member Dwight Sutherland, MP for St George South.

The placard bearers came from Bowling Alley, Newton Crescent, Bissex, Chimborazo, Horse Hill and Branchbury and some said they barely made it, as they had no water in their taps this morning.

Marshall and Sutherland said Prime Minister Freundel Stuart needed to visit the areas instead of sitting tight-lipped as leader of the country, while an annoyed Marshall said Minister of Water Resources Dr David Estwick needed to “send in his resignation papers”.

Dixon promised legal action if nothing was done soon.

BWA’s communication specialist Joy-Ann Haigh was seen consoling those who turned out. (MR)
