IT IS NOW up to individual employees of the Customs and Excise Department to decide whether or not they will join the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).
General secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), Toni Moore, said yesterday the union will no longer be advising its members in that department not to sign the option forms.
Her comments came after the BWU held a more than two-hour meeting at its Solidarity House headquarters with Customs officers and Customs guards yesterday.
“The Barbados Workers’ Union was in a position this evening to communicate to our membership that the demands we had on the table, which we felt would offer workers the kind of assurances and the kind of security and the kind of information that they would need to inform a decision, which is an individual decision on whether or not they would opt to stay, remain in the Civil Service or transition to the BRA, we were satisfied that those demands have been met.” (HLE)
