CELLULAR PHONES COULD be used to pay bus fares on public service vehicles (PSVs) in short order, if a company which has expressed an interest in providing the service is taken on board.
PSV owner Morris Lee has revealed that a company interested in providing the service had approached him with the idea.
Lee, who is also president of the Association of Public Transport Operators (APTO) but was speaking in his personal capacity, said he would have to fully discuss the proposal with members of his organisation.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION in a telephone interview, Lee said if the proposal was accepted, PSVs could move swiftly toward a system where people could top up their cellphones and pay their bus fares, reducing opportunities for criminals. (LK)
