MANY?BANDLEADERS seem not to be interested in “playing mass” at the Grantley Adams International Airport and very few are jumping at an opportunity to have their costumes displayed at the island’s lone airport.
This revelation is coming from Keith Goddard, airport corporate communications specialist, who is also not happy with what passes as Crop Over based on its original concept 40 years ago.
Goddard, who described himself “as a person on the outside looking in” in relation to the festival, said his view was shaped by his profession at the airport “where I have responsibility for the decor . . . at various times of the year [encompassing] Crop Over”.
Goddard, speaking at the launch of the Crop Over band Youth Explosion produced by Quincy Jones with designs by Renee Ratcliffe, at Courtyard Marriotts last Sunday, said everyone seemed to be doing their thing when it came to the festival.
