ON THE DAY when suspended Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin (below) officially ceases to be a public officer by way of retirement, fresh allegations are being made of meddling in the day-to-day operations of the police force by “outsiders”.

In fact, highly placed sources charged that moves were being made to appoint someone else as head of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) over the man who has been in that position for the past three years, Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith.  former-cop-dottin

At the heart of the matter is said to be the failure of the Police Service Commission to accept the recommendation of the acting commissioner to appoint to acting positions a number of the 16 officers who had sued the Government after earlier promotion recommendations by then commissioner Dottin were rejected and fresh names submitted and approved.

A decision in those cases is still pending. (RRM)
