AN ALREADY BAD SITUATION at the island’s lone airport got worse yesterday afternoon.

With operations at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) still impacted by a go-slow involving customs and immigration officers, several unionised workers staged a sick-out.

According to reports, the majority of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW)-represented employees in the engineering department, as well as custodial and security officers, clocked out at noon.

While it was not immediately clear how many workers participated in yesterday’s action, it was seemingly in response to a breakdown in wage negotiations between the airport’s management and the NUPW.  (RB)
