‘Worse’ for DLP to wait

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) may have to deal with a low voter turnout by its membership in the next general election, whenever Prime Minister Freundel Stuart decides to call it.
That’s the opinion of political scientist Peter Wickham, who believes the longer Stuart takes to call an election, the worse off the DLP will be.
Wickham, whose company CADRES also commissioned a poll earlier this year that showed Stuart was behind Opposition Leader Owen Arthur and former leader Mia Mottley as preferred leaders of the country, made the comments during Starcom Network Inc.’s popular radio talk show Down To Brass Tacks yesterday.
The political scientist reiterated that it would be in Stuart’s best interest to call the general election sooner rather than later.
Elections are constitutionally due by April next year. (BA)
