PRINCE HARRY’S VISIT to the Regional Security System Headquarters (RSS) is being hailed as a unique opportunity.
This is according to director of operations and plans at RSS, Lieutenant Colonel Glyne Grannun, who spoke to the WEEKEND NATION following the Prince’s penultimate stop during his special50th anniversary visit Barbados.
“Because Barbados hosts the headquarters of the RSS, His Royal Highness visited to be able to find out a bit more about its operation and to meet the people that are involved,” the RSS director said.
“Of course, the RSS has had a long partnership working with the United Kingdom in terms of building the RSS and its operations, so I think this is a unique opportunity for His Royal Highness to be able to come and put some ground reality to a lot of the things he would’ve heard about and learned about,” Grannun added.
The RSS is a regional system consisting of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines and was first created in 1982.
Following a tour of the RSS Fusion Centre, which is located at the Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Paragon site, Prince Harry went to the security system’s Air Wing unit to visit the staff and view the C26 surveillance aeroplane.
He also took the opportunity to inspect the BDF personnel on display before being given a tour of the aircraft and even taking time out to pose for a picture with the group.
Grannun explained that the United Kingdomhad also extensively helped the RSS with training, adding that this greatly helped with maritime surveillance to support of its memberstates forces. (AD)
