RETIRED ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERT Jeffrey Headley has cautioned Government not to allow the situation at Combermere School to develop into a permanent closure.

Headley, who headed the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) for over 27 years before retiring three years ago, said it was the overloading of the school’s only septic tank that resulted in the stench which has caused students and teachers to become ill.

“Don’t let what happened to Louis Lynch School and St Leonard’s Girls’ School happen to Combermere. Environmental concerns are not environmental problems. These things can be fixed within a day or two and Combermere does not have to be closed,” he told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday, as he alluded to the closure of St Leonard’s Girls’ and Louis Lynch in 1996 and 2006, respectively.
