IT TOOK ALMOST 20 years but it was a reunion worth waiting for.

Digicel Barbados is Music on Sunday was the event became the first time that members of Coalishun were on stage representing the group since 1998.

The band, with vocalists Adrian Clarke, Terencia TC Coward-Thompson and Rupert Rupee Clarke, opened the show at Kensington Oval before thousands of cheering fans who enjoyed their performances of songs such as I am a Bajan and Wrong Name (Who The Hell Is Kim), among others.

Following their performance, WEEKEND BUZZ spoke with TC and Rupee who were both glad to be back on stage with the group.

They called for more similar events and even hinted at more Coalishun performances.

“Words can’t adequately explain how it feels to be on stage with Coalishun,” Rupee said.

“This is such an amazing feeling and I honestly think this is something we need to do again because you can see the turnout here tonight even though the show was postponed. And thousands of people had already left the island before today, but this is something Bajans have to see again,” Rupee said.

After Coalishun exited the stage, Square One and krosfyah put down show-stopping performances.

Rupee said there was a great sense of nostalgia backstage as the show brought back memories of when they performed at The Boatyard, toured London and performed at the Bajan Invasion in Trinidad.

He also said that since they accumulated individual experiences and grew over the years, they would be able to perform more effortlessly, if such a show was to happen again.

“I can’t really say much has changed except that all of us have had our own individual careers and we would have had our own experiences out on the road but we would have gotten that foundation because of this band and coming back into it we can do it a lot more effortlessly given all the experiences that we have gained,” he said.

Former soca monarch TC had a similar opinion, but she said it would just take proper scheduling.

“The hardest part is the travel schedule, but once we can come to a clear area where we can have the time and Rupert will be here it is something we are going to look at,” she said.

“During the rehearsal process it was kind of hectic because it has been a minute that you’ve been constantly going to rehearsals unless you had a competition, but we had fun while we rehearsing, we had fun on stage,” she said. (TG)
