WITH CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER ARRIVALS projected to be about 800 000 this year, there are calls for Bridgetown to take a “quantum leap” to cater to the burgeoning numbers.
Local cruise expert Martin Ince said the time had come for Barbados to improve the Bridgetown experience for visitors. He suggested The City’s business people and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) should “relook” what they were doing.
“I think there is an opportunity to improve what we offer,” Ince told the DAILY NATION, noting that cruise lines regarded Barbados as the prime destination among the Caribbean chain that helped to sell cruises to the region.”
“We have a responsibility to ensure that we blaze a trail and that we keep leaping forward. I find sometimes that we as a destination get very, very complacent, thinking that the ships have to come to Barbados all the time.” (GC)
