Permits scam

TIME MIGHT BE running out for people who illegally obtain taxi permits to purchase duty-free vehicles.

DAILY NATION investigations revealed that hundreds of people had been applying to the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) for taxi permits, with the sole purpose of buying high-end vehicles at a fraction of the cost.

When asked recently if he was aware of the practice, Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley declined to speak on the matter, and deferred comment to his deputy permanent secretary Anthony Wiltshire.

Wiltshire condemned any such practice and pledged to investigate the matter now that it had been brought to his attention. (RB)
