THE 500-STRONG Barbados Defence Force (BDF) has a new boss and deputy.

Chief of Staff Colonel Alvin Quintyne and his deputy Commander Errington Shurland yesterday turned over control of the country’s army to Colonel Glyne Grannum and Commander Aquinas Clarke following a colourful Change of Command Parade at the historic St Ann’s Fort, the Garrison, St Michael, yesterday.

The event was witnessed by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite and Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, among others.

During the military function, the outgoing BDF chief Colonel Quintyne was presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal Of Honour, with Sir Elliott pointing out that it was an honour given at his discretion. The head of state explained that Quintyne’s excellent and meritorious service to the country made him deserving of the award. (LK)
