Barbados finally have a victory on foreign soil, as Darian King predictably wrapped up their opening-round Group II Davis Cup tie over Paraguay with a routine straight-sets victory in yesterday’s reverse singles.
Playing Ayed Zatar on the clay courts of Rakiura Resort, the world no.142 had to fight back from an early break before looking right at home in a decisive 7-6(2), 6-1, 6-1 win.
The result gave Barbados an unassailable 3-1 lead, and their first Davis Cup victory away from home, ending a four-tie losing streak on the road that included heavy 5-0 defeats to Mexico and Ecuador.
