THE LAUNCH OF the Barbados Sugar and Rum Season brought out top tourism players for a sweet, spirited evening at the historic Sunbury Plantation Great House.
Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc William “Billy” Griffith and BTMI chairman Alvin Jemmott were all there to support the Barbados Tourism Product Authority initiative led by the CEO Dr Kerry Hall.
Hall spoke with passion about the two-month season during which Barbados’ rum and sugar are being highlighted in rum tours of Bridgetown, tours of the island’s rum refineries, sugar and rum cooking classes, cocktail evenings, candlelight dinners and a host of other events.
Sugar cane and rum displays showing off old Barbadian rum labels such as Doorly’s and E.S.A. Fields White Rum, together with the energetic performance by Dancin’ Africa and the food and drink served up, set the tone for the season.
