BARBADOS is going full steam ahead with plans to expand the tourism industry.

Major hotel developments, divestment of ownership, increased airlift and a goal of creating 14 000 jobs in the next three years were among the projections rolled out by Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy yesterday.

As for visitor arrivals, Sealy said he anticipated a 2017 performance that would exceed the 631 520 recorded last year.

The prediction was part of the encouraging picture the minister painted for industry stakeholders during a Press conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

All of the agencies falling under the aegis of the ministry were represented as Sealy announced his plans for “tourism expansion for job creation and the march to full employment in the tourism industry”. He said the ultimate aim was to create about 14 000 tourism jobs over the next three years, a “lofty goal” he believed was achievable. (GC)
