Hotel upgrades coming

AS BARBADOS CONTINUES to sharpen its competitiveness in the tourism industry, a number of hotels will embark on building up room capacity over the coming year.

This is coming from Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) chief executive officer Rudy Grant, as he gave his administrative report at the body’s first quarterly general meeting at Hilton Barbados yesterday.

Among the major upgrades announced were a planned $14 million extension of Sea Breeze Hotel, a $10.2 million injection by the Elegant Hotels Group, and Divi Southwinds putting in $6 million in improvements refurbishment during the spring and summer.

Grant is also calling on Government to grant exemption from duties and taxes on some 49 items submitted under the Tourism Development Act. (JS)
