Double hope lost

Despite a career-best six-wicket haul by Aaron Jones and another fine knock by Shai Hope, Barbados’ chances of becoming double crown champions vanished yesterday as they suffered their second consecutive defeat in the WICB Regional Under-19 One-Day Championship.
Needing a competitive 228 to win after Windward Islands were dismissed in 49.4 overs, Barbados were all out for a disappointing 152 in 38.3 overs, with the batting power-play still available.
The defeat by 75 runs, meant the dethroned champions slipped to fourth in the points table with 19.5, while Windwards’ second straight victory moved them into third spot on 24.5 and an outside chance of taking the title with one series of matches remaining.
Again, the openers fell cheaply as Barbados slipped to seven for two. Craig St Hill’s middle stump was knocked out the ground by the fiery Ray Jordan and Shayne Moseley was lbw to Preston McSween (3 for 17).
The ever reliable Hope made  a well-crafted 74 after a slow start. Hope, dropped by Jordan at mid-wicket on 56, and Carlos Maynard, who was promoted, revived the innings with a third-wicket partnership worth 67 off 87 balls.
